Shared universe.

One of the great things about movies today is also one that drives people away. CGI has given us movies that could exist without them but not be as visually stunning. The way we watch movies today is much different from 10 or 20 years ago, Hell 5 years ago. Think about this we are about to have a 3 hour Avengers movie. In 2008 when Nick Fury walked out of the dark in Tony Stark’s living room. The cinema world changed forever. But when you think about it did it really. Did change cinema? Yes and no. It gave studios the idea of shared universes. The MCU to the DCEU, Monsterverse, to Universal’s attempted Dark Universe. We have seen success and we have seen failure. But people fail to see that shared movie universes aren’t new. The original Universal monsters. But one closer to my heart is the Toho Monsters Universe. From Gojira in 1954 all the way till Terror of Mechagodzilla in 1975, with well over 22 films. To the rebirth of that Universe in 1984 till 1996 but even then those had connections to the first one. Also Toho relaunched a mini universe with combined History of some of the classic films to new ones in the early 2000s. So before we consider Marvel the greatest ever remember someone started it before them.
